chris4nderson asked: HI. Where are the absolute must see's in asia? I am starting to plan a trip for April 2012 which will hopefully last about 5-6 months. I hope to spend 2 months at least in Asia. I am interested in the spirituality and natural beauty that asia has to offer. But trying to research this is hard as everywhere is so appealing. Knowing what you know what would you recommend?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
Thanks for your message and I apologize for taking an eternity to answer. It’s hard to answer you question since I know nothing about you, so I’m just going to give some general statements here. If you’ve got two months, getting around the Southeast Asian mainland -Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, even Burma- is relatively cheap and easy. If you’ve got a little more time, fly to the Philippines and to Indonesia for spirituality (Bali is predominantly Hindu, the Philippines is a big Christian nation) and natural beauty (gorgeous beaches, volcanoes & lush forests and mountains in both countries).
If you have the whole 6 months, see if you can cover at least a little part of China and India. Do the capitals, Beijing and Delhi, but make an effort to see Guilin, China for its amazing rice terraces and the Yangtze River and Varanasi, India for its deep, ancient spirituality.
There’s much more, of course. It all depends on what your budget is and what kind of experiences are important to you.
Hope this was helpful.
J.
